WHAT IS BIOCLEAR®

The BioClear® method is a technique that uses a thin shell to form dental composite material onto your tooth. Once it’s customized, you’ll leave the office with a beautiful, natural-looking smile.

Stronger than Bonding and More Conservative than Veneers

While everyone would love to have a perfect movie-star smile, the reality is that nobody has a perfect smile without help.

If you have smile imperfections – like chips, discoloration, gaps, black triangles, or small teeth – then you may have looked into veneers or bonding. But what if we told you there was another less-invasive option?

Bioclear is a non-destructive cosmetic treatment that can transform your smile in just one appointment. Aurora Family Dentistry would like to introduce Anchorage to this amazing technology.

BioClear® is Ideal to Restore These Cosmetic Dentistry Concerns:

  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Stains
  • Discoloration
  • Uneven or small-sized teeth
  • Damage from decay
  • Unsightly gaps between teeth
  • Dark triangles between teeth

THE BIOCLEAR® 5-STEP PROCESS

Aurora Family Dentistry uses BioClear® to correct issues from discoloration to uneven teeth since it’s the best choice for patients who want to preserve the strength of their natural teeth.

1. Thoroughly Prep the Area

First, the tooth and area around must be meticulously cleaned. We’ll gently push the gums back and isolate the area to be worked on during the process. An agent is then applied to highly traces of sticky biofilm that can prevent an ideal bond. We’ll then clean this biofilm off with instruments and apply a cleaning powder that further prepares the surface without damaging the enamel.

2. Select Tooth Form

The doctor will select a thin mylar form from several different shapes to work from. This mold will provide a basis for your new tooth restoration.

3. Fill the Form with Resin

The form selected by the doctor will slip under the gemlike and a warmed composite tooth-colored resin will be injected to fill the form.

4. Hardening the Composite Resin

Once the mold is injected with the BioClear® resin, the doctor will use an ultraviolet light system to harden the resin (light-activated ultraviolet polymerization).

5. Shaping and Polishing

The mold is removed after hardening and the tooth is shaped to perfectly match the surrounding teeth and polished.

BIOCLEAR® FAQ

The BioClear® process is new to you, and we know you have questions. Please read from frequently asked questions and answers our patients want to know about BioClear®.

How long does a BioClear® restoration last?

With proper care, your BioClear® treatment should last approx. ten years or longer. This is far longer than typical tooth bonding and about the same as a porcelain veneer.

How much does BioClear® cost?

On average, BioClear® restorations are 25-50% less expensive than a porcelain veneer. it’s also less expensive to fix or replace than an entire veneer or crown. BioClear® is more expensive than bonding, however, the durability of BioClear® can easily save you money in the long run.

Is BioClear® covered by insurance?

Our wonderful staff will help you to see if your insurance company will cover your BioClear® treatment. If for any reason it’s not covered, we will let you know and will work with you to develop a financial plan. We will make this a smooth process for you.

How does BioClear® compare to porcelain veneers?

BioClear® is a much more conservative treatment than veneers, which is the primary reason most of our patients prefer them. Veneers destructively modify the tooth structure by requiring part of your tooth enamel to be removed in order to fit the veneer which means there’s no going back to your original tooth. With BioClear® the healthy tooth structure remains fully intact and there’s no prepared shaving required. This is ideal because if later you wish to choose another restoration option, those remain open to you. BioClear® also takes only one appointment whereas veneers typically take multiple appointments, saving you time and money.

How does BioClear® compare to bonding?

While bonding is less expensive, BioClear® is vastly superior because it is more stain-resistant, durable, and long-lasting. It’s also better-suited to hide those dark rectangles at the top of your teeth. Traditional bonding is less resistant to staining, chipping, and cracking than BioClear®.

How does BioClear® compare to a crown?

In order to get a traditional crown, a good amount of healthy tooth structure must be removed making a dental crown an irreversible procedure. Even though a crown can’t get cavities, the underlying tooth structure can, and typically this decay starts at the edge of the crown and progresses underneath it. Since a crown blocks most types of x-rays, it can be difficult to see what’s going on underneath until it's too late. A snap-off fracture is possible with a crown which means the crown and underlying tooth can break off at the gemlike. If there isn’t enough tooth structure remaining, the only option at this point is to remove the tooth and replace it with an implant or bridge which is a costly repair.
